Mumbai, February 18: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar has demanded a CBI investigation into the plane crash involving former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. In response, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Abu Azmi emphasized the need for an external agency to ensure the truth is revealed. He expressed his concerns regarding the film ‘The Kerala Files 2’ as well.
In a conversation in Mumbai, Azmi stated that following Ajit Pawar’s demise, there are numerous questions among the public that need answers, which is why a CBI inquiry is being sought. “I believe an external agency should investigate the entire matter so that the truth can come to light,” he added.
Regarding the Telangana government’s special concessions for Muslim government employees during Ramadan, Azmi remarked that if the Telangana government can provide relief, he hopes the Maharashtra government can learn from this.
On the statements made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat about having three children, Azmi responded, “Why just three? Have 30 children; who is stopping anyone? As for the issue of infiltrators, where do they come from? Since 2014, the BJP has been in power. If infiltrators are coming in, who is accountable? Those whose states are seeing infiltrators must answer. Infiltrators should be caught and expelled from the country.”
Concerning ‘The Kerala Files 2,’ he criticized it for allegedly causing distress to Muslims, stating that the country should operate under its Constitution. “This arbitrary behavior has gone too far,” he remarked.
Commenting on the Maharashtra government’s decision to end the 5% reservation for Muslims, Azmi described it as a hateful and communal government that researches issues to polarize the majority. He noted that in 2014, the Congress and Nationalist parties announced a 5% reservation for Muslims in jobs and education, but the government resolution (GR) was not properly implemented. “If they genuinely wanted to help, they could have issued the GR,” he said.
He concluded by stating that there seems to be no difference between Congress and the BJP when it comes to justice for minorities. Instead of merely announcing the cancellation of reservations that were never truly granted to Muslims, the government should focus on delivering justice. Many traditional professions within the Muslim community in Maharashtra are economically, educationally, and socially backward.
