Udaipur, May 26, 2025 : In a landmark ruling on one of India’s biggest narcotics cases, a Udaipur court on Monday sentenced six accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and one to 10 years, bringing closure to a ₹3,000-crore international drug trafficking racket unearthed nearly nine years ago. The verdict, pronounced by NDPS ADJ-1 Judge Manish Vaishnav, also includes heavy fines — ₹2 lakh for each of the six convicts and ₹1 lakh for the seventh.

The case, which shocked law enforcement agencies in 2016, involved the seizure of 23,500 kilograms of MDMA (commonly known as MD drugs) — one of the largest drug hauls in Indian history — from an industrial unit in Kaladwas, Udaipur.
A Global Drug Syndicate Busted
The drug cartel, allegedly being operated from Mumbai, had established a manufacturing base in Dhoinda, Rajsamand and used the Kaladwas factory as a storage hub. Investigations revealed that the MD drugs were being supplied to countries like South Africa and Indonesia, making it a case of international smuggling with far-reaching ramifications.
Convicts and Sentences
Those sentenced to 20 years in prison are:
-
Ravi Dudani
-
Parmeshwar Vyas
-
Anil Malkani
-
Sanjay R. Patel
-
Nirmal Dudani
-
Gunjan Dudani
Atul Mahatre, due to health considerations, received 10 years of imprisonment.
Notably, Ravi Dudani and Parmeshwar Vyas have already spent nine years in jail since their arrest in 2016. The other five had been out on bail but have now been remanded following sentencing.
Trial Highlights: 50 Witnesses, 1,000 Documents, 300 Electronic Devices
The complex trial spanned over nine years and involved:
-
50 key witnesses
-
Over 1,000 pages of documentary evidence
-
More than 300 electronic devices examined
-
1,600 control samples tested for chemical analysis
The prosecution was led by Additional Advocate Praveen Khandelwal, Special Public Prosecutor Rajesh Vasita, and S.C. Sharma, representing the Central Government before the Rajasthan High Court and Udaipur NDPS court.
2016: The Breakthrough Raid
The breakthrough came on October 28, 2016, when the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), acting on a tip-off from Mumbai, raided a Kaladwas-based industrial unit. The massive seizure of 23,500 kg of MD drugs was valued at over ₹3,000 crore at the time. Following the raid, further crackdowns were carried out in Gundli and Dhoinda, Rajsamand.
This was India’s largest-ever MD drug seizure, a record that still stands.
The Mastermind and Fallout
The alleged kingpin of the racket, Subhash Dudani, was among the initial eight accused but died three years ago, before the verdict was delivered. His nephew Ravi Dudani, along with several relatives and associates, was found to be deeply involved in manufacturing and distributing synthetic drugs through a well-oiled international network.
The conviction marks a significant milestone in India’s fight against organized drug trafficking and underscores the growing sophistication of investigative and legal frameworks under the NDPS Act.
