Official launch date of the Xiaomi 15 series has gone live along with the chipset they will carry. The two devices, the Xiaomi 15 and the Xiaomi 15 Pro are launching on October 23rd and will be powered by the next flagship SoC from Qualcomm. The chipset was widely believed to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 but the latest teaser poster shared by the brand confirms that the SoC will be called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Snapdragon 8 Elite, rather than Snapdragon 8 Gen 4
Qualcomm is streamlining the nomenclature of the Mobile Platform to more closely match the naming scheme of the Snapdragon X Elite for the processor on laptops.
- The company had tipped this name in a leak from DigitalChatStation and followed with previous slides in new marketing collateral.
- The brand first shifted away from triple-digit versioning (Snapdragon 888) and adopted the Gen series that continues with the 8 Elite.
- The first devices will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, of which the Xiaomi 15 series is one. This will debut between October 21st -23rd Snapdragon Summit 2024.
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite: The Snapdragon 8 Elite will be based on TSMC’s 3nm process and have two performance cores at 4.0GHz and six efficiency cores at 2.8GHz
- Qualcomm custom Oryon architecture Snapdragon 8 Elite will come to use with it.
Xiomai 15 series: all we know so far so far
The Xiaomi 15 series will arrive in China initially, but it will then roll out to the rest of the world, including India.
- Display: The display of the Xiaomi 15 series is expected to pack in a 2K OLED micro-curved display at the same 120Hz refresh rate. The Pro model will probable sport a taller screen, at 6.74 inches, while the vanilla will probably come with a smaller screen.
- Processor: Phones will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processors. In comparison, the predecessors came with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
- Cameras: The primary shooter could be a 50MP OmniVision OV50K, an ultra-wide camera at 50MP, and a 50MP Sony IMX8-series periscope telephoto camera with up to 5x optical zoom. A similar combination is very much possible for Xiaomi 15.
- Xiaomi 14 Pro features the 50MP Light Fusion 900 sensor, 50MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 50MP 3.2X telephoto camera.
- Battery: The Xiaomi 15 Pro is likely to feature a large 6,000mAh battery, a jump from 4880mAh cell on the Xiaomi 14 Pro. There will be 90W fast charging. The vanilla model could get a 5000mAh cell.
