Apple Unveils First Touchscreen MacBooks with New OLED Displays
Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models, featuring OLED displays and starting prices of $2,899.

LOS ANGELES, Oct 29: Apple revealed its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models during an event in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The new laptops feature advanced OLED displays and will be available for pre-order immediately, with sales starting on November 6.
CEO John Ternus spoke about the device’s capabilities, noting the display’s high contrast and brightness, which is tailored for content creators. The new models use Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, promising performance enhancements for demanding tasks.
Starting at $2,899 for the 14-inch model, the laptops are designed for professionals, with improved battery life of up to 24 hours and a lighter design. The 16-inch model, equipped with the powerful M5 Max chip, starts at $4,799.
This launch marks a shift for Apple, which has historically avoided touchscreens on its laptops. Ternus acknowledged the company’s previous stance, stating, “We love the Mac… and it’s never been better.” Analysts like Anshel Sag from Moor Insights noted, “I believe they were always wrong on pushing back on touch.”
In terms of visual performance, the new MacBook Pro’s OLED display is designed for high dynamic range (HDR) content, with claims of peak brightness reaching 2000 nits and an industry-leading contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. This positions the MacBook Pro as a competitor in a market that has long embraced touchscreen technology, particularly among Windows laptops. The addition of a glowing Apple logo on the laptop’s lid also harks back to earlier designs, engaging a sense of nostalgia among users.
Critics and fans alike will now watch how this bold move impacts Apple’s market, especially as the holiday shopping season approaches. As Ternus concluded, the new MacBook Pro delivers a “whole new way for pros to interact with their content.”
