Weather Forecast: Very Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued in 7 States Ahead of Holi – Full List Inside

Weather Update: Major Changes Expected Across Several States

As Holi approaches, a significant shift in weather patterns is expected across various parts of India. A new Western Disturbance has been detected, moving from lower to upper troposphere levels, and is expected to travel eastward, affecting several states in North and West India between March 10 and March 15.

Heavy Rainfall

This weather system will bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and even snowfall in some regions, creating a major impact on Holi celebrations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, lightning, and even hailstorms in certain regions.

Extreme Heat and Sudden Weather Shift in Rajasthan

The state of Rajasthan has already been witnessing extreme heat conditions, with temperatures soaring close to 40°C in some areas. The IMD forecasts a further increase of up to 4°C in the next 48 hours, making it one of the hottest March spells in recent years.

However, due to the impact of the approaching Western Disturbance, the state may see unexpected cloud cover and a drop in temperature from March 13 to March 15. Areas in Western and Eastern Rajasthan could witness light to moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms and lightning.

Delhi Weather: Strong Winds, Drizzle Expected on Holi

The national capital, Delhi, and the surrounding NCR region have started experiencing increasing daytime heat, though cool morning temperatures persist. According to IMD reports, Delhi could see light drizzle on the day of Holi (March 25, 2024).

Additionally, strong winds are expected on March 11 and 12, followed by cloudy weather and a possible temperature drop during Holi celebrations. This could impact public gatherings, processions, and outdoor festivities.

Rainfall and Snowfall Warning for Northern States

A major weather shift is expected in the northern states, particularly in the Western Himalayan Region, where heavy rain and snowfall are predicted.

States Expected to be Affected (March 10 – March 15):

  • Jammu & Kashmir
  • Ladakh
  • Gilgit-Baltistan
  • Muzaffarabad
  • Himachal Pradesh

These regions will experience rain, thunderstorms, and heavy snowfall in higher altitudes. The Western Disturbance will peak between March 12 and 14, bringing severe winter-like conditions despite the onset of summer.

Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh to Witness Thunderstorms

Residents of Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh must brace for thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rainfall from March 12 to March 13. These states will see a temporary drop in temperature, and strong winds could impact transportation and outdoor activities.

Impact on Holi Celebrations Across India

With Holi being one of the most widely celebrated festivals in India, these weather changes could cause disruptions in public gatherings, outdoor events, and travel plans.

  • Delhi NCR: Light drizzle and strong winds on Holi day
  • Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh: Thunderstorms and rain expected on March 12-13
  • Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh: Heavy snowfall and rain from March 10-15
  • Rajasthan: Severe heat followed by rain and thunderstorms from March 13-15

Precautionary Measures for Residents

  • Stay updated with IMD alerts: Regularly check for weather warnings.
  • Plan Holi celebrations accordingly: If celebrating outdoors, make sure to prepare for possible rain or strong winds.
  • Drive safely: Heavy rains and thunderstorms can lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility.
  • Take precautions for temperature fluctuations: The sudden shift from extreme heat to rain and storms may cause health issues.
