Waris Pathan Criticizes Government Over Ujjain Mosque Controversy

Mumbai, September 29 (Udaipur Kiran) : Mumbai witnessed a strong statement from Waris Pathan, the national spokesperson of the AIMIM, regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the historic Ujjain mosque. Speaking to reporters, he criticized the central and BJP governments, accusing them of initiating what he termed ‘Operation Muslim’ and ‘Operation Mosque’ against the Muslim community.

Pathan emphasized that the mosque in question, which is nearly 600 years old, should not be targeted for removal. He questioned the rationale behind demolishing mosques and madrasas, stating, “Will tearing down mosques and madrasas lead to India’s development? The country will progress through love, not hate.”

He highlighted the need for fairness in the government’s approach to urban development, particularly in road widening and the removal of encroachments. Pathan argued that if action is to be taken against illegal structures, it should not be limited to religious sites.

In his remarks, he mentioned that discussions had been held with the mosque’s imam and chief qazi, who had sought time to approach the court regarding the issue. Pathan noted that during these talks, there was a suggestion to consider the voluntary removal of any part deemed illegal. Despite this, he expressed concern over the police’s actions.

Pathan firmly stated that the government should refrain from taking action against a mosque that has stood for centuries, asserting, “India cannot develop by oppressing Muslims.”

In a separate statement in Mumbai, he also raised questions about the electoral process, asserting that the Constitution grants every citizen the right to protest peacefully, and that democratic dialogue is essential.

He further criticized Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that there are widespread perceptions of electoral malpractices contributing to current issues. Citing a report, he mentioned that two election commissioners working alongside Kumar had raised 14 objections over ten months, which he claimed were ignored, leading to unilateral decisions.
