New Delhi | May 20, 2025 — Volkswagen India is all geared up to officially launch the iconic Volkswagen Golf GTI in the country on May 26, 2025. The performance hatchback, revered globally for its dynamic driving character, will be brought in as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) under the government’s import norms.

Ahead of its official debut, the Golf GTI has already created a buzz among enthusiasts. Volkswagen has closed bookings for the first batch, which has been completely sold out, underscoring the strong demand for this high-performance hatchback in the Indian market.
Power and Performance
At the heart of the Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine that churns out an impressive 245 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch transmission), delivering lightning-fast gear shifts and engaging performance. The car is expected to sprint from 0–100 km/h in just under 6.4 seconds, making it one of the quickest hatchbacks in India.
The GTI also comes with a limited-slip differential, sport suspension, drive modes, and adaptive chassis control, giving it a balanced edge of comfort and aggressive driving dynamics.
Premium Pricing, Niche Appeal
Given its CBU status, the Volkswagen Golf GTI is expected to carry a premium price tag of around ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom). Despite the steep pricing, the GTI has found takers among enthusiasts who value its European build quality, timeless design, and engaging drive.
What to Expect
In terms of equipment, the India-spec Golf GTI is likely to feature:
Matrix LED headlamps
A 10-inch infotainment touchscreen
Digital Cockpit Pro instrument cluster
Sports seats with signature GTI tartan upholstery
Dual-zone climate control
Advanced driver assistance features
18-inch alloy wheels
Volkswagen is expected to deliver the first batch of GTI units to customers by June 2025, with more batches potentially opening up depending on demand and availability.
A Step Towards Performance Revival
The launch of the Golf GTI is seen as a statement move by Volkswagen India as it looks to rekindle its performance portfolio and cater to a niche audience. It also hints at the brand’s willingness to explore low-volume enthusiast cars alongside its mainstream offerings like the Taigun and Virtus.
