Udaipur Kiran, Washington/New Delhi. In a surprising announcement early Saturday morning, US President Donald Trump revealed on the Truth Social platform that a daring mission had been carried out to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. This revelation shocked the WORLD, though sources indicate the operation, code-named ‘Operation Absolute Resolve,’ had been in planning for nearly five months.
On Saturday, the US Delta Force successfully detained Maduro within minutes, following months of detailed preparation. Intelligence from the CIA and training exercises involving select Delta Force soldiers had been ongoing since August 2025 to ensure mission success.
Sources disclosed that after receiving confirmed intelligence from the CIA and completing Delta Force’s readiness, President Trump approved the operation. The final go-ahead was given just four days prior to the mission, but it was postponed until Saturday to take advantage of favourable weather conditions. According to Trump, Maduro attempted to hide in a secret room behind heavy steel doors inside his safe house, but the US forces thwarted his efforts.
A core committee comprising Trump’s senior aide Stephen Miller, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and CIA Director John Redcliffe was formed to provide daily updates and keep the President informed.
Beginning in August 2025, the CIA gathered covert intelligence on Maduro, placing an agent close to him to monitor all his activities. Using this information, Delta Force created an exact replica of Maduro’s safe house and conducted multiple drills to practice infiltration and capture techniques.
The Pentagon deployed a massive military presence in the Caribbean region for the operation, including an aircraft carrier, 11 warships, and over a dozen F-35 fighter jets. In total, more than 15,000 troops were stationed to manage any situation. FBI teams accompanied Delta Force to Caracas, continuously providing precise location updates of Maduro during the mission.
Diplomatic experts point to several reasons behind the US strike on Venezuela, including alleged violations of international law. Former ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar believes the true aim is to install a US-friendly government. The US has accused Maduro of drug trafficking, which it considers a security threat. Meanwhile, US attacks along Venezuela’s coastal areas resulted in over 100 casualties and the seizure of multiple vessels and oil tankers.
However, the US has not provided concrete evidence supporting these allegations, indicating that drug trafficking was not the sole reason for the assault. The operation reflects America’s intent to strengthen its influence across the continent, as highlighted in the new security strategy released in December. Maduro’s growing ties with China and Russia were also a cause of concern for the US, which it was unwilling to accept.
Increasing border incursions from Venezuela to the US made it imperative for Trump to remove Maduro from power. Sajjanhar emphasized that arresting a foreign president and his spouse without solid proof violates international law. No country has the right to infringe upon another nation’s sovereignty, making this issue likely to be raised at the United Nations.
Amit Singh, Associate Professor at JNU and foreign affairs expert, stated that this strike will have negative consequences on global politics. Through this move, Trump aims to assert US dominance over Latin America and send a message that America’s authority is supreme. Nevertheless, this action has also affected Trump’s image as a peace advocate since it disregards the sovereignty of another nation.
