Udaipur, August 15 – Success knows no age limit. This has been proven by 6-year-old Swayam Vyas, originally from Udaipur but currently residing in Bhilwara. Swayam recently achieved a FIDE rating by defeating experienced players in a chess tournament held in Bhilwara, which was approved by the international chess federation, FIDE. With this accomplishment, Swayam has become the youngest player in Rajasthan to achieve a FIDE rating at just 6 years and 2 months old.
Swayam’s father, Swapnil Vyas, explained that according to FIDE rules, there are two categories for chess players: rated and unrated. To achieve a FIDE rating, a player must either win against or draw with at least three players who are already on the FIDE rating list. In July 2024, at a national-level tournament in Bhilwara, Swayam outplayed several strong opponents and secured his rating. FIDE has awarded him a ranking of 1469. Swapnil mentioned that Swayam has been playing chess since the age of 3 and has been receiving training from Giriraj Singh Ranawat in Bhilwara for the past 6 months.
It is noteworthy that Swapnil works for an insurance company in Bhilwara, while his wife, Megha Vyas, is a homemaker. Megha was previously a lecturer at a private college but left her job to fully support her son’s chess career.
