Udaipur : The Zawar mines police seized 206 cartons of alcohol from a truck which was carrying load of rice bran to Gujarat at a checkpost in Oda area under the police station limit. Hariyana made alcohol of various known brands was being smuggled to Gujarat meant to be distributed to the voters ahead of general elections, cops said. The truck driver Roshanlal so Heeralal Meghwal, resident of Swaraj Nagar, Udaipur has been arrested and being interrogated to get details of the owner of the truck and for whom the liquor supply was meant for, Bharat Yogi, SHO Zawar Mines police station said.
The truck had sacks of rice bran however, liquor cartons were hidden beneath the load. The documents were related to grain transport and the driver couldnt provide any explanation on the illegal transportation of liquor, police said. The zawar mines police had laid a checkpost on thursday late night and when the truck was passing through the area, the driver didnt stop the truck when he was signaled to do so. The team chased the truck and seized the items.
With only few weeks left before the general elections it appears candidates in the fray have already started stocking up on liquor to influence voters. With a view to curb the use of black money and likely inducement of voters in the elections, the enforcement agencies have been asked to keep special vigilance and monitor on the production, distribution, sale and storage of liquor and other intoxicants.
