Udaipur, March 28 – In a decisive action against long-standing Urban Development (UD) tax defaulters, the Udaipur Municipal Corporation on Friday sealed 26 shops near Surajpole Chauraha and the Kanchan Palace Hotel located on Delhi Gate–Town Hall Road. The total outstanding tax amount on these properties exceeds ₹1.90 crore.

Major Tax Defaulter Identified
Municipal Commissioner Ram Prakash informed that Krishnachand Pandey, son of Kanhaiyalal, owes the highest UD tax amounting to ₹1,83,49,294. Despite multiple notices, the tax was not paid. Acting on directives, a revenue team led by Revenue Officer Nitesh Bhatnagar and Assistant Administrative Officer Vinod Agrawal conducted the operation and sealed all 26 shops belonging to Pandey.
Hotel Kanchan Also Sealed
In a similar action, the Kanchan Palace Hotel, located outside Shramjeevi College on Delhi Gate–Town Hall Road, was also sealed for non-payment of ₹8,40,643 in UD tax. Despite prior notice, the hotel failed to clear the dues, prompting the municipal team to take enforcement action.
Weekend Office Hours for Public Convenience
To facilitate tax payments, Udaipur Municipal Corporation will remain open on Saturday and Sunday, even on public holidays. Citizens with outstanding dues or objections can visit Room No. 62 in the municipal office to resolve issues or pay their taxes.
This stringent drive underscores the UMC’s commitment to increasing revenue recovery and ensuring timely compliance from property holders across the city.
