Business Rivalry Led to Conspiracy to Wrongfully Implicate Indian Partner; Sentences Range from 10 to 15 Years
ABU DHABI, May 3, 2025 — In a major legal development, a criminal court in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, has sentenced three individuals — two men and one woman — to prison terms ranging from 10 to 15 years for falsely implicating an Indian entrepreneur in a drug-related case. The incident, motivated by business rivalry and greed, involved a deliberate attempt to destroy the Indian businessman’s reputation and seize control of his thriving enterprise.

According to a Gulf News report, the convicted individuals include an Emirati man identified as S.R., his wife, and her brother A.A. The Emirati national and his wife have each been sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined AED 50,000, while A.A. has been given a 15-year prison sentence and fined AED 100,000. The court designated A.A. as the primary offender in the case.
Orchestrated Plot to Eliminate Business Partner
The court found that the accused conspired to frame the Indian businessman by planting drugs in his vehicle and then alerting local authorities. Their goal was to eliminate him as a business competitor and take over his enterprise.
Investigations revealed that S.R., influenced by his wife, had become hostile towards his Indian business partner due to ongoing disputes. The trio planned the false drug charge with the help of A.A., who allegedly planted illegal substances in the Indian entrepreneur’s car, leading to his arrest by police.
Case Collapsed Under Scrutiny, Truth Emerged During Interrogation
During court proceedings, the prosecution failed to substantiate the charges, especially after the Indian businessman disclosed prior business tensions with his partner. This prompted authorities to reopen the investigation, shifting their focus toward a potential conspiracy.
Upon further questioning, all three accused confessed to fabricating the case, leading to their conviction. The court’s decision is seen as a landmark ruling in protecting expatriate entrepreneurs and upholding justice in the face of malicious intent.
Legal and Community Implications
The verdict reinforces the UAE’s zero-tolerance policy against abuse of its legal system and sets a precedent for safeguarding the rights of foreign investors. The Indian community in the UAE, which contributes significantly to the economy, has welcomed the court’s swift and fair resolution of the matter.
The Indian businessman, whose identity has not been disclosed for privacy reasons, is now expected to resume his business operations with his name cleared.
