Mumbai, March 28: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is set to kick off this Saturday, and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has returned to Mumbai. He is expected to be available to play for the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday.
The Mumbai Indians will face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their second match of IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. According to a report by ‘Cricbuzz’, Bumrah arrived at the team hotel on Friday evening. While there has been no final confirmation regarding his participation on Sunday, sources close to MI suggest that the chances of him playing are quite high.
It is noteworthy that Bumrah had spent the last five days at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, but sources indicate that there is no cause for concern. This was a routine procedure aimed at monitoring his workload. In recent days, Bumrah has bowled at full pace and is fully fit to lead the Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack.
In IPL 2025, the Mumbai Indians managed to win only 8 out of 14 matches. However, they secured a playoff spot by finishing fourth in the points table. Given their status as five-time IPL champions, the team would prefer to remain in the top two this season.
On Friday night, MI players practiced at the Wankhede Stadium. Before the match on Sunday night, both teams will hold another practice session on Saturday, with all eyes on Jasprit Bumrah.
Following their season opener against KKR on March 29, the Mumbai Indians will face the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 4 and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 7. Their fourth match will be against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 12.
