Two Australian Women Cricketers Harassed in Indore Ahead of World Cup Match, Accused Arrested

Indore, October 25 (Udaipur Kiran): A shocking incident occurred in Indore just before the Australia vs South Africa Women’s World Cup 2025 match, when two Australian women cricketers were allegedly harassed by a man while walking near their hotel on Friday evening.

According to police reports, the players were walking from Hotel Radisson Blu to a nearby café when a bike-borne youth allegedly harassed them. The cricketers immediately pressed an SOS alert, following which police officials rushed to the spot.

Acting on a complaint filed by team security officer Danny Simmons, the MIG Police registered an FIR and quickly arrested the accused, who was identified as a local delivery executive. CCTV footage, hotel records, and statements from security staff have been collected as part of the investigation.

The accused has been charged under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police confirmed that the bike used in the incident has been seized, and the suspect has a prior criminal record.

Senior police officials met the players, recorded their statements, and assured them of full security during their stay in Indore.

Reacting to the incident, Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya called it “deeply shameful and damaging to India’s global image.” He said,

“This is not just misconduct against a woman athlete, but an insult to the dignity of our nation. Strict action must be taken so that no one dares to tarnish India’s reputation again.”

He further stated that the Madhya Pradesh Government follows a zero-tolerance policy toward crimes against women and assured that exemplary punishment would be given if the accused is found guilty.

“When international guests visit our country, their safety and respect are our responsibility. India is known for its culture of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava,’ and such incidents hurt that tradition,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Australian women’s team remains focused on their World Cup campaign, currently sitting at the top of the points table after winning five out of six matches. The team’s victories include wins over New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, England, and a close contest against India.

The semi-final line-up for the Women’s World Cup 2025 has been confirmed, with Australia, South Africa, England, and India advancing to the knockout stage.

  • The first semi-final will be played on October 29 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

  • The second semi-final will take place on October 30 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
