Turning Pink City into Green City is the Need of the Hour – Mahant Rajendra Das

Jaipur, August 5 – Rajasthan has always carried the message of environmental protection, and in keeping with this tradition, a special plantation programme was organised today at the Vishwakarma Transport Association premises in New Transport Nagar, Jaipur, under the nationwide plantation campaign of the Swami Nitanand Mission Foundation.

Addressing the gathering, Jatela Dham Peethadheeshwar Mahant Rajendra Das Maharaj said that in today’s times, it is necessary to transform a historic city like Jaipur from a Pink City into a Green City. This will only be possible if plantation drives become a public movement.

Recalling Rajasthan’s environmental heritage, Mahant Rajendra Das said that on 12 September 1730, in Khejadli village of Jodhpur, 363 people, led by Amrita Devi Bishnoi, sacrificed their lives to protect trees – a supreme example of environmental conservation. He urged that in her memory, everyone should take a pledge for tree plantation, warning that otherwise the survival of human life will face severe threats in the future.

He announced that the Swami Nitanand Mission Foundation will run plantation campaigns in the form of “Khejri Bagichi”, “Triveni”, and “Panchvati”, and that every year on 12 September, “Khejadli Day” will be observed to spread awareness about this sacrifice.

Rajasthan’s Forest and Environment Minister Sanjay Sharma, present on the occasion, assured full support from the state government to fulfil the “Hariyalo Rajasthan” pledge, praising Mahant Rajendra Das for reminding people of their environmental traditions and duties. He compared the Mahant to Lord Hanuman, saying that just as Hanuman was reminded of his strength, the Mahant has reminded society of its environmental responsibilities.

Bhajan Samrat Mahant Prakashdas Maharaj created a spiritual atmosphere with devotional songs on patriotism and the environment. Hundreds of environmental enthusiasts took a pledge to not let Amrita Devi’s sacrifice go in vain and planted trees in a vow to protect nature.

The event was also attended by Rajasthan’s Additional Advocate General Gurucharan Singh Gill. The programme was conducted by the Foundation’s Vice President Raj Sharma.

Those present included Indian Shikshan Mandal’s Rishi Sharma, Jagdish Mund, President of Vishwakarma Transport Association Rahul Jain, Pankaj Goyal, Ashok Chauhan, Kaushal Kishore Sharma, Naveen Sharma, Sarpanch Hariom, former police station in-charge Raghubir Singh, Sandeep Lakhan Majra, Praveen Swami, Dinesh Chidi, and Raju Ranila, among several other prominent citizens, who participated in the plantation and pledged environmental protection.
