Jashpur/Raipur, 3 September (Kiran News): Three people lost their lives and more than 20 others were injured after a Bolero vehicle ran into a group of villagers participating in a Ganesh immersion procession in Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh, late Tuesday night. All the injured were rushed to Bagicha Hospital, while those in serious condition were referred to Ambikapur for further treatment. The villagers were heading from Jurudand village under Bagicha police station to immerse the Ganesh idol.
According to eyewitnesses, the Bolero was coming from Raikera and, due to excessive speed, lost control and crashed directly into the crowd. Over 100 people were part of the procession, moving towards the pond with the Ganesh idol. The sudden collision caused panic as several people fell and some got trapped under the vehicle. Arvind (19), Vipin Kumar Prajapati (17), and Khirowati Yadav (32) died on the spot, while more than 20 people suffered injuries.
The angry crowd caught hold of the driver and beat him up, while other occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. Upon receiving information about the accident, police reached the spot, carried out rescue operations, and shifted the injured to Bagicha Hospital, where the medical team provided first aid and referred the critically injured to Ambikapur.
After learning about the incident, Jashpur Collector Rohit Vyas and SSP Shashi Mohan Singh visited the hospital late at night and assured assistance to the injured.
