Hyderabad, May 1: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy assured the employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) on Friday that the state government is committed to fulfilling their demands and protecting their rights.
During a meeting with representatives of TSRTC unions, he promised that the government is taking several steps to financially strengthen the TSRTC and ensure the effective functioning of the entire organization.
Responding positively to the unions’ requests, he announced that salaries for the three-day strike period would be released and cases filed against employees during the strike would be withdrawn.
The Chief Minister directed Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and officials to take immediate steps regarding the payment of salaries for the strike period and the withdrawal of cases.
According to the Chief Minister’s office, union leaders expressed gratitude to the CM for initiating efforts to resolve their issues. They congratulated him for coming forward with an action plan to enhance the organization’s development, ensure its existence, maintain its dignity, and provide excellent services to the public.
CM Revanth Reddy noted that TSRTC employees had supported the Congress party in forming the government, and the Congress stood by them during their struggles.
He mentioned that the number of buses has been increased to boost TSRTC’s revenue, and new employees have been recruited.
The Chief Minister also informed union leaders that the government has decided to construct an international-level bus terminal on 150 acres of land in Shamshabad, with 100 acres already allocated for a bus terminal in Gajularamaram.
In light of the increasing financial burden from diesel buses, TSRTC is set to purchase 1,000 electric buses. Mini buses will also be included in the TSRTC fleet to establish seamless connectivity with the metro rail network.
CM Reddy informed the TSRTC unions that dues from the Congress tenure had not been collected. Nevertheless, the government is sincerely working to repay the growing debt.
He stated that work has also begun on pending appointments based on compassionate grounds. He further mentioned that the government will soon make decisions on financial matters, including the salary revision commission. Unions should discuss among themselves and present practical options to the government for a permanent solution.
The CM cautioned TSRTC employees not to be influenced by opposition politics, as the organization has already suffered significant losses.
He said, “We are already working together to reduce the interest burden on TSRTC’s outstanding loans, and employees should also cooperate in strengthening and maintaining the organization.”
Assuring that no driver would be dismissed, he emphasized that it is the responsibility of every TSRTC employee to strive to rebuild the organization.
The Chief Minister stated that the government has provided financial assistance of ₹8,000 crores to TSRTC by implementing the ‘Mahalakshmi Scheme.’
