Rocket Attack on Police Vehicle in Pakistans Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad, May 1: Armed attackers targeted a police vehicle with a rocket in the Kanga Jan Bahadur area of Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Friday, resulting in the death of one police constable and injuries to two others.

According to reports from Pakistan’s leading daily, The Express Tribune, District Police Officer (DPO) Yasir Afridi stated that the incident occurred when the police personnel were returning from the Fateh Khel checkpoint.

Constable Raza Ali Shah, who was driving the vehicle, was killed in the attack, while the injured officers were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Following the rocket attack, gunfire and explosions were reported, prompting authorities to close traffic on Miryan Road. Security forces have cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation.

This incident comes amid a rise in attacks targeting law enforcement personnel, particularly in the border provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Local media reported that earlier this week, armed attackers targeted a checkpoint in the Hurmazi area of Pishin district in Balochistan, resulting in the death of a police head constable.

According to a report by Dawn newspaper, police stated that armed assailants opened fire on a police checkpoint equipped with automatic weapons, to which the police responded. A police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the exchange of fire lasted for some time, leading to the head constable’s death. The attackers managed to flee the scene.

On April 19, assailants on a motorcycle shot two Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel in the Kurram Garhi area while they were shopping in the market.

Similarly, on March 18, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Elite Force was shot by unidentified attackers outside his home in the Upper Dir’s Mano Banda area. He was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
