Tata Motors continues to drive the EV revolution in India, and its flagship Nexon EV 45 variant is at the forefront of this charge. Launched with a larger 45 kWh battery pack, the top-end Nexon EV is designed to provide more range, features, and overall comfort. But how does it perform in real-world conditions? We put it to the test to find out.
Nexon EV 45: Real-World Driving Range
Tata Motors claims an MIDC-certified range of 489 km and a C75 estimated range of 350-375 km for the Nexon EV 45. To put this to the test, we drove the EV in Eco mode, using regeneration levels 2 in the city and level 1 on highways for optimal balance between efficiency and driving comfort. With air conditioning set to 24°C, fan speed at 2 or 3, and the driver’s ventilated seat turned on, the Nexon EV 45 managed to deliver a real-world range of approximately 330 km on a full charge.
It’s worth noting that range can vary significantly depending on driving habits, terrain, and use of climate control features. Driving on downhill stretches or using lighter throttle inputs can increase the effective range.
Performance and Comfort Observations
The Nexon EV 45’s suspension tuning deserves special appreciation. It easily absorbs road imperfections, offering a plush ride across city streets and broken roads. However, the heavy battery pack adds noticeable lateral movement and body roll, particularly when cornering or on straight highways at speed.
The 45 kWh variant also brings exclusive features like a panoramic sunroof and a frunk (front trunk), adding to practicality. Additionally, Tata Motors has now included a hidden storage compartment under the boot floor for small items—an appreciated convenience.
Tech Glitches
While the overall tech package in the Nexon EV is feature-rich, there was a noticeable glitch in the instrument cluster, where overlapping information caused visual confusion. While this may be resolved via a software update, it was a minor but notable concern in an otherwise tech-savvy cabin.
Verdict: A Practical Long-Range EV for India
With its stylish design, improved battery range, and long list of features, the Tata Nexon EV 45 remains a strong contender in the Indian electric vehicle segment. Its real-world range of 330 km makes it viable for both city commutes and occasional highway runs, especially with the expanding charging infrastructure.
