Hearing Scheduled on November 10 in Case Involving 15 Deaths
Jodhpur, November 8 (Udaipur Kiran): The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the recent tragic road accident in Matoda area of Phalodi district that claimed 15 lives, including 10 women and 4 children. Following the court’s direction, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been registered, and the initial hearing is set for November 10.
The bench comprising Justice J.K. Maheshwari and Justice Vijay Bishnoi took note of the incident after reports highlighted the gravity of the crash. The collision occurred on the night of November 2 on the Bharatmala Expressway in the Matoda police station area when a tempo traveller carrying pilgrims returning from Bikaner to Jodhpur rammed into a truck parked incorrectly in front of a roadside dhaba. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely shattered, resulting in the deaths of all 15 occupants, including the driver.
Earlier, on November 4, the Rajasthan High Court had also registered a suo motu PIL concerning the rising number of road accidents in the state. The bench of Justice Dr. Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Anoop Singhi took up the matter, focusing on road and public safety measures.
