
New Delhi, July 22 (Udaipur Kiran): The Supreme Court has put an interim stay on the Uttar Pradesh government’s order to write the names of shopkeepers on shops along the Kanwar Yatra route. A bench headed by Justice Hrishikesh Roy issued the stay and issued notices to the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh. The Supreme Court has sought their reply and fixed the next hearing of the case on July 26.
Several petitioners, including the NGO Association of Protection of Civil Rights, have filed petitions in the Supreme Court against the Uttar Pradesh government’s order. In this petition, the UP government, the state DGP, and the SSP of Muzaffarnagar, besides the Uttarakhand government, have been made parties.
In fact, on July 19, the Uttar Pradesh government had issued an order making it mandatory for all shopkeepers on the Kanwar route to write their names in front of their respective shops, which has created a political ruckus.
