Supreme Court Grants Bail to Advocate Akhilesh Dubey in Extortion Case

New Delhi, February 23: The Supreme Court has granted bail to advocate Akhilesh Dubey in a case involving threats and extortion. This decision comes after the High Court had previously denied bail, prompting Dubey to approach the Supreme Court for relief.

Akhilesh Dubey’s lawyer, Satyam Dwivedi, stated in an interview with a news agency, “Six cases were registered against him in a single day out of malice. After hearing the arguments, the Supreme Court has granted bail, increasing the hope for bail in the remaining cases as well.”

Dwivedi further explained that the court reviewed the complaints filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) before making its decision. The court noted that Dubey has no criminal history. It was revealed that all the First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed after the first FIR, indicating that many of them were registered improperly.

Previously, the team had approached the Allahabad High Court for bail, which was denied on the grounds that 47 other cases were pending against Dubey. The Supreme Court was informed that many of these cases lacked substantial evidence during the investigation, leading to the bail approval.

In October of last year, the Allahabad High Court had rejected Dubey’s bail plea in the Kanpur Nagar District Court. Justice Santosh Rai stated that Dubey, who has been in jail since August 6, 2025, faced multiple charges under various sections of the law at the Barra police station, which justified the denial of bail.

The court emphasized that the seriousness of the crime, the potential misuse of professional position, and the risk of influencing witnesses or tampering with evidence did not provide sufficient grounds for granting bail.
