Mumbai, October 25 (Udaipur Kiran): Former Miss Universe India and supermodel Vartika Singh is all set to make her Bollywood debut with the upcoming film ‘Haq’, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam in lead roles. The film, directed by Suparn S. Varma, is inspired by the landmark Shah Bano vs. Ahmed Khan case of 1985, a turning point in India’s women’s rights and social justice movement.

Vartika will play a strong, emotionally resilient woman, marking a powerful start to her acting career. Known for her composed and impactful presence in web series like ‘The Family Man’ and ‘Rana Naidu’, she reportedly underwent intensive training and workshops to prepare for the role. To perfect her character’s linguistic tone, Vartika worked closely with language experts.
A native of Lucknow, Vartika’s connection with the city deepens as portions of ‘Haq’ have also been shot there. The film’s makers said that she was “the perfect choice” for the role due to her personality and screen presence.
Vartika Singh rose to prominence after winning the Miss Universe India 2019 title and representing the country at the 68th Miss Universe pageant. Earlier, she was crowned Femina Miss India Grand International 2015. In 2017, GQ Magazine listed her among India’s most beautiful women.
In ‘Haq’, Yami Gautam portrays Shah Bano, while Emraan Hashmi essays the role of her husband Mohammed Ahmed Khan. The film also features Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady in pivotal roles.
The story is based on journalist Jigna Vora’s book ‘Bano: India Ki Beti’, which traces the real-life case that shaped legal and social discourse on women’s rights in India.
After watching the film’s trailer, Jigna Vora praised the cast, stating that Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi have done full justice to their roles.
Produced jointly by Junglee Pictures, Insomnia Films, and Baweja Studios, ‘Haq’ is slated for a theatrical release on November 7, 2025.
