Ahmedabad, February 23: Google CEO Sundar Pichai was among the high-profile attendees at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 Super-8 match between India and South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Pichai, alongside ICC Chairman Jay Shah, took his place in the stands for this significant tournament match. Before the game, he accompanied former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar to the field, where they showcased the T20 World Cup trophy.

Pichai’s presence highlighted Google’s role as an official partner of the tournament, emphasizing the growing collaboration between global tech giants and the international cricket community.

Born in Madurai, Pichai later joined former cricketer Ravi Shastri on-air during the mid-innings break. He shared his lifelong passion for cricket and spoke about the influence of Sunil Gavaskar during his formative years as a cricket fan. “For me, Sunny (Gavaskar) has always been a huge role model. I had his poster on my wall. I’ve followed cricket from a very young age,” he said. “I used to listen to commentary of matches in the West Indies on the radio with my grandfather and other family members. Cricket has always been a part of my life.”
