Udaipur : The state police have beefed up security for the Prime Minister’s visit on August 29, with a large deployment of police force in and around the city area. CCTV cameras would be installed at Maharana Pratap Khelgaon ground where Modi is expected to address a mass gathering of over 1.5 lakh audience, sources claimed. The preparations for a grand welcome to the prime minister had lately been ordered by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje too when she had personally visited the city on Sunday to supervise the arrangements.
The city roads that had assumed a bad shape during the heavy rains last month, are being repaired while the ground leveling and filling works at the Khelgao ground is being done at a rapid pace by the UIT. Structures are being erected to make a massive pandaal for the rally where Modi is scheduled to announce and inaugurate various projects for many cities across the state. Sports authorities and players are elated by the PM’s proposed visit as the construction and development works that had been going on at a snail pace has suddenly gained momentum. The maintenance work and ground leveling was much needed that has now given a new look to the otherwise deserted place. Maharana Pratap Khel Gaon is a newly developed sports stadium by the collective efforts of the UIT and Municipal Corporation.
Facilities, courts and tracks for various games including basketball, volley ball, tennis, skating, archery range, Judo, Boxing etc have been created while a budget sanction for a ground for astro turf hockey has been recently given. Construction is underway for a multi purpose indoor hall at an expected cost of 24 crore rupees. By 2020, Khel Gaon is expected to have a fully functional international cricket stadium.
