Udaipur, January 2 (Udaipur Kiran): A one-day training programme on scientific mushroom cultivation was organised for Scheduled Caste farmers in the Aravalli region of Jhadol–Phalasia under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) scheme. The programme was conducted by the All India Coordinated Research Project on Mushrooms, operating under Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur.

The training was held at Gram Panchayat Nichli Sigri in Phalasia block, where farmers were introduced to modern techniques of mushroom cultivation as a means of enhancing income and improving nutritional security. Project In-charge Prof. Narayan Lal Meena highlighted the nutritional and medicinal benefits of mushrooms, including their role in reducing blood pressure, controlling diabetes, supporting heart health, possessing anti-cancer properties, and acting as antioxidants. He also provided detailed information on the scientific cultivation of oyster, button, and milky mushrooms.
Participants were encouraged to utilize crop residues and agricultural waste for mushroom production, promoting sustainable and low-cost farming practices. Practical demonstrations were conducted by Shri Avinash Kumar Nagda and Shri Kishan Singh Rajput, who explained step-by-step cultivation techniques and post-harvest handling.
Senior journalist Shri Dhanraj Garasiya addressed the trainees and emphasized the importance of adopting scientific agriculture for economic self-reliance. He also administered a pledge inspired by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s principles, encouraging participants to uphold constitutional values and social equality.
The training programme witnessed participation from 30 men and women farmers belonging to 10 villages of the Phalasia block. At the conclusion of the session, participants were provided with mushroom cultivation kits and related materials to support practical implementation at the grassroots level.
The initiative aimed to empower rural and marginalized communities by promoting sustainable livelihoods through scientific farming practices.
