Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra Model Launch Reportedly Delayed Despite Increasing Competition

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra

According to reports, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra is unlikely to be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event today and the foldable phone could be delayed indefinitely. The South Korean smartphone maker was previously reported to be working on a slimmer version of its next Galaxy Z 6 Fold device, which will be available as an “Ultra” or “Slim” model with a slightly larger screen. However, reports suggest the company could revive the foldable phone to compete with the more advanced models of its Chinese rivals.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra may be delayed indefinitely

According to WinFuture (in German), Samsung has shelved the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 6. Previously, the model numbered SM-F958 was expected to launch as a flagship foldable smartphone alongside Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Motorola recently launched the Razr 50 Ultra to compete with the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6, so Samsung will face more competition in the foldable market. Meanwhile, the South Korean smartphone maker’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 will have to compete for that honor. Magic V3 is launched in China.

Both the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra and the Honor Magic V3 are said to have a more modern design compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. Motorola’s phone has a large screen and Honor’s Magic V3 is expected to be one of the slimmest foldable phones available in 2024.

In May, Counterpoint, the foldable smartphone shipment tracking service, announced that Huawei took the top spot in global foldable smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2024, overtaking market leader Samsung for the first time. Huawei and Honor shipments increased significantly by 460% and 257%, respectively. Meanwhile, Samsung’s shipments fell 42 percent in the first quarter of 2024.

According to the report, Samsung plans to gradually update the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 models, but internal discussions about the return of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra model are ongoing. As such, the company is expected to unveil only two foldable models at the Galaxy Unpacked event today.
