Udaipur, October 6, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): A court in Udaipur has rejected the bail plea of former SOG Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mukesh Kumar Soni, who is in judicial custody in connection with the alleged Rs 2 crore bribe case linked to the much-discussed plot scam.
According to the case, complainant Niranjan Mogra had several documents related to plots, gold jewellery, signed cheques, valuable securities and a DVR seized. Soni allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore through middleman Sajjan Singh Jain, alias Tatla, in return for helping return these items and ensuring that the complainant was not implicated in any other case.
Middleman Arrested With Rs 2 Crore
On September 26, a trap operation was conducted. As instructed by the middleman, the complainant reached with Rs 2 crore, including Rs 4 lakh in genuine currency and Rs 1.96 crore in dummy notes.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Sajjan Singh Jain red-handed while he was accepting the alleged bribe amount.
During verification and discussions regarding the transaction, CCTV footage reportedly captured Soni meeting the middleman at a location on Rani Road.
Prosecution Opposes Bail
Soni, who is currently in judicial custody, filed a bail application before the court of the Special Judge, Prevention of Corruption Act, Court No. 1, Udaipur.
Assistant Director of the Prosecution Department Rajesh Kumar Pareek opposed the bail plea. He argued that the case involved a Rs 2 crore bribe transaction and that the CCTV footage, recovery of the alleged bribe amount and other documents on record prima facie supported the allegations against Soni.
The prosecution argued that granting bail in such a serious case would not be justified. Co-accused Sajjan Singh Jain is also in judicial custody.
Court Rejects Bail
After hearing arguments from both sides, Presiding Officer Satish Chandra Godara rejected Soni’s bail application.
The court observed that granting bail to the accused in such circumstances could have an adverse impact on society. Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the court denied the accused the benefit of bail.
