Sydney, October 25 (Udaipur Kiran): The legendary duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli once again showcased their brilliance as India crushed Australia by 9 wickets in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground, wrapping up the series 2-1 in style.
After losing the first two games, India bounced back strongly, chasing down the 237-run target in just 38.3 overs, thanks to a dominant unbeaten partnership between the two senior batsmen.
Skipper Rohit Sharma, who had scored 73 runs in the Adelaide ODI, returned to peak form with a magnificent 121 not out off 125 balls, smashing 13 fours and 3 sixes. Virat Kohli, who had been dismissed for zero in the first two matches, answered his critics with a fluent 74 not out off 81 deliveries, including 7 boundaries.
Chasing Australia’s 236, India made a confident start with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill adding 69 runs in 10.2 overs for the opening wicket. Gill scored 24 runs off 26 balls with one six and two fours before falling to Josh Hazlewood, the only successful Australian bowler of the innings.
From there, Rohit and Kohli took charge, stitching together an unbeaten 168-run stand off 169 balls, leading India to a commanding win and sealing the series with authority.
Earlier, Australia, after winning the toss and opting to bat, were bowled out for 236 in 46.4 overs.
Captain Mitchell Marsh (41) and Travis Head (29) provided a solid 61-run opening stand, but regular wickets thereafter kept the hosts in check. Matt Renshaw (56), Alex Carey (24), and Cooper Connolly (23) offered resistance, but India’s disciplined bowling attack ensured Australia couldn’t post a big total.
For India, young pacer Harshit Rana was the standout performer, taking 4 wickets for 39 runs, while Washington Sundar bagged two. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel claimed one wicket each.
With this victory, India not only avoided a series whitewash but also reaffirmed the dominance of its senior batting duo — “Ro-Ko” — who reminded fans once again why they are among the modern greats of world cricket.
