RNT Medical College Launches Home Dialysis Facility

Udaipur, May 27 (Udaipur Kiran) – RNT Medical College has successfully introduced Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) for kidney patients for the first time in the division, offering major relief to patients requiring regular dialysis treatment.

The Nephrology Department said the advanced dialysis method will allow serious kidney patients to perform dialysis at home without repeated hospital visits, long waiting hours and heavy travel expenses.

Head of Department and Professor Dr. Pankaj Beniwal said CAPD is an advanced dialysis technique in which patients can perform dialysis themselves at home with assistance from family members after proper training. In this process, a special catheter is inserted into the patient’s abdomen through which dialysis fluid is introduced. The fluid absorbs toxic substances and excess water from the body and removes them safely.

He said the technique will be especially beneficial for patients whose blood pressure drops critically during regular haemodialysis, patients facing difficulty in creating dialysis access through veins, those suffering from severe heart disease, and patients living in remote rural areas who cannot frequently travel to dialysis centres.

The procedure was successfully performed on a 21-year-old woman suffering from chronic kidney disease. The patient had been on regular haemodialysis for the past three months but faced unstable blood pressure and severe dialysis access complications during treatment. Considering these complications, doctors decided to shift her to CAPD treatment.

Doctors said the patient will now be able to perform dialysis at home without visiting the hospital regularly, saving both travel time and expenses while allowing her to live more independently. The entire treatment facility has been provided free of cost under the Chief Minister Ayushman Arogya Scheme.

RNT Medical College Principal and Controller Dr. Rahul Jain congratulated the nephrology team and said the institution has always aimed to provide world-class healthcare services to patients across the division, including those living in remote areas. He said the CAPD facility would particularly benefit poor patients from rural and tribal regions who were forced to travel repeatedly to cities for dialysis treatment.

The procedure was conducted under the guidance of Professor Dr. Pankaj Beniwal along with Assistant Professors Dr. Harsha Makhija and Dr. Jaydeep Raj Damor. Resident doctors Dr. Apoorva Parmar, Dr. Aswathi Joseph, Dr. Sumesh Nirwan, Dr. Yogesh Tanwar and Dr. Uttam Roy also contributed to the successful procedure.

Super Speciality Hospital Superintendent Dr. Vipin Mathur described the launch of CAPD services as a major medical advancement for the institution. He said the technology would prove highly beneficial for critical patients suffering from severe heart disease or vascular complications who are unable to undergo regular haemodialysis.
