Rain, Thunderstorms Lash 8 Rajasthan Cities; Hail Hits Nagaur and Hanumangarh Amid Soaring Heat in Western Regions

Jaipur, May 11, 2025 — Rajasthan witnessed dramatic weather swings on Sunday as thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall swept through eight cities, while hailstorms pelted Nagaur and Hanumangarh. Meanwhile, temperatures in parts of western Rajasthan surged past 42°C, with Bikaner recording the highest at 43.2°C.

Thunderstorm

This weather volatility stems from the impact of a western disturbance that triggered widespread rainfall across several districts, including Bhilwara, Kota, Chittorgarh, Dabok, Sriganganagar, Sangaria, Mount Abu, and Pratapgarh. Mount Abu reported the highest rainfall at 15 mm.

Dust Storms, Rain, and Hail Bring Temporary Respite from Heat

Post noon on Sunday, cloud cover and gusty winds transformed the weather in cities like Hanumangarh, Nagaur, Chittorgarh, and Kota. Hanumangarh saw strong winds and hail showers around 3 PM, following a sunny morning. Nagaur experienced similar conditions an hour later. Light rainfall was also reported in Bikaner, Jodhpur, and surrounding areas.

While these showers provided short-term relief from the searing heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for eight districts, warning of possible thunderstorms and rain on Monday.

Temperature Update: Heatwave Conditions Expected from May 15

Despite localized rainfall, heatwave conditions are poised to return. IMD Rajasthan Director Radheshyam Sharma indicated that the state could enter a fresh heatwave phase starting May 14–15, with maximum temperatures likely to rise to 44–45°C in western regions.

Sharma added that parts of eastern Rajasthan may continue to see isolated rain and thunderstorm activity for the next 2–3 days. However, from May 13 onward in the west and May 14 in the east, such weather events are expected to taper off.

Humidity across the state ranged from 24% to 88% on Sunday, further influencing the perceived temperature and discomfort levels.

Jaipur Sees Clearer Skies, Rising Temperatures

In Jaipur, partly cloudy skies gave way to bright sunshine, pushing the mercury up. The city recorded a maximum of 40°C and a minimum of 27.2°C, with the daytime temperature rising by 2.4°C over the previous day.
