Rain Showers of Up to an Inch in Multiple Cities, Storm and Rain Alert Issued for 26 Districts Today

Jaipur, June 21 (Udaipur Kiran). With the activation of the monsoon advancing from the Bay of Bengal, its influence is now manifesting in Rajasthan. The pre-monsoon phase commenced on Thursday, putting an end to the prevailing heatwave. Most districts experienced rainfall on the very first day of this pre-monsoon spell. Early Friday morning, the residents of Kota were greeted by rain, offering much-needed respite from the heat, while clouds have blanketed Sikar since the morning.

Monsoon

Following the meteorological shift on Thursday, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Kota, and Ajmer divisions witnessed substantial rainfall. Various districts, including Sri Ganganagar, Jaipur, and Sikar, reported up to an inch (25 millimeters) of rain. In Jaipur, after nearly a month, the daytime maximum temperature dipped below 40 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists attribute the commencement of the pre-monsoon showers to an active western disturbance in northern India and moisture-laden winds from eastern India. The Jaipur Meteorological Center forecasts similar weather conditions, with thunderstorms and rain expected to persist until June 24. Sri Ganganagar recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours at 26 millimeters. In Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Hanumangarh, and Churu, the weather changed dramatically in the afternoon due to the western disturbance, leading to stormy winds and intermittent heavy rains until late night.

Prior to this, clouds and rain graced numerous districts, including Jaipur, Bharatpur, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Dholpur, Alwar, Bhilwara, Ajmer, and Tonk. Rain accompanied by strong winds was observed in Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, and Bhilwara. This weather change caused a temperature drop of up to three degrees Celsius in several cities on Thursday. In Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Ajmer, and Sirohi, the maximum daytime temperature remained below 40 degrees Celsius. In the capital city of Jaipur, the rain commenced around 1 PM yesterday, keeping the day’s temperature from exceeding 38 degrees Celsius. A downpour occurred at Jaipur Airport in the afternoon, recording 17.6 millimeters of rain. Various areas of Jaipur, including JLN Marg, Malviya Nagar, Jagatpura, Mansarovar, Sanganer, and rural localities like Kotputli, Bassi, Chaksu, Kotkhavda, and Fagi, also experienced significant rainfall.

Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Center, indicated that the active monsoon originating from the Bay of Bengal signals an on-time monsoon arrival in Rajasthan. The monsoon is expected to enter Rajasthan between June 26 and 28 through Udaipur and Kota. Until then, pre-monsoon activities will continue across the state. A yellow alert for rain has been issued for all districts. The weather department predicts normal pre-monsoon and monsoon rainfall over the next fortnight. Currently, Rajasthan has experienced 73 percent less rainfall. From June 1 to 20, the state should have received 25.1 millimeters of rain, but only 6.8 millimeters were recorded. Normal rainfall is anticipated in eastern and western Rajasthan over the next week.
