Sochi (Russia), October 3 (Udaipur Kiran News): Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, commending India for maintaining its sovereign stance by continuing oil imports from Russia despite U.S. pressure. He also emphasized the need to address the trade imbalance between the two nations and directed his government to take steps toward achieving a more balanced partnership.

Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club plenary session in Sochi’s Black Sea resort, attended by security and geopolitical experts from over 140 countries, President Putin highlighted the long-standing mutual respect between India and Russia, noting that both nations have always been sensitive to each other’s concerns and have never faced any tension in bilateral relations.
Putin stated, “India and Russia must work together to reduce the trade imbalance. Our bilateral trade currently stands at around 63 billion USD, which, though significant, does not fully reflect our potential.”
According to Russian news agency TASS, Putin discussed expanding economic cooperation, suggesting that Russia could increase imports of agricultural products and pharmaceuticals from India. He also instructed the Russian government to work with Indian counterparts to identify the best sectors for collaboration and resolve barriers that limit trade growth.
The Russian President is expected to visit India in December, and his remarks come ahead of this significant diplomatic engagement. Putin reiterated that India’s independent decision-making, especially in continuing crude oil imports from Russia amid Western sanctions, demonstrates strong and sovereign leadership under Prime Minister Modi.
