Kolkata, April 7: The match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on Monday was interrupted by rain, resulting in both teams earning one point each. This outcome has propelled Punjab Kings to the top of the IPL 2026 standings, while KKR has finally opened its account.
In the 12th match of IPL 2026, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the team’s start was disappointing, with Finn Allen dismissed for just 6 runs off 7 balls. Cameron Green continued his poor form, scoring only 4 runs, marking his third consecutive underwhelming performance. After 3.2 overs, KKR had managed to score 25 runs but lost 2 wickets, with Punjab Kings’ bowlers dominating the play.
As the game progressed, heavy rain began, lasting for the next three hours. The umpires ultimately decided to abandon the match due to the wet conditions, leading to both KKR and Punjab Kings receiving one point each.
Thanks to the rain, KKR has now secured its first point of the season, placing them 8th in the standings. They have lost 2 out of 3 matches played so far. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings now have 5 points after 3 matches, leading the table under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has slipped to second place with 4 points from 2 matches, while Rajasthan Royals sits third with 4 points as well.
Delhi Capitals, having won their first two matches, are currently in fourth place with 4 points. Sunrisers Hyderabad is fifth with just one win from 3 matches, while Mumbai Indians are sixth with 2 points from 2 matches. Lucknow Super Giants are in seventh place after securing one win from 2 matches.
Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings are still in search of their first win this season, with Gujarat Titans at 9th place after losing both of their matches, and Chennai Super Kings at the bottom of the table after losing 2 matches.
