Promoting Indian culture since 2014: Union Culture Minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma speaks to DD News

Continuing with the series of interactions, Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma presented an account of the achievements and accomplishments.

He said after 2014, efforts have increased substantially to showcase Indian culture and its uniqueness at the global stage. He also said that due to the consistent efforts of the government, India has climbed up from 65th position on tourism map to reach 40th position worldwide.

Talking about the achievements in the last 4 years:

– Swadesh Darshan has given a boost to the basic infrastructure at tourist destinations. 13 theme circuits are being developed with an investment of Rs. 780 crore.
– Scheme to spend 100 crore for the beautification of places of religious importance.
– 60 percent of the digitalisation work at historical places is complete.
– 100 historical monuments designated as Adarsh Smaraks.
– E-ticketing has been made available for historical places. Theme based tourism has begun across the country.
– The three key aspects of tourism – Connectivity, cleanliness and security are the main focus of the ministry

To promote cultural diversity, many programmes have been initiated which also includes Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. With an investment of Rs 490 crore, cultural mapping of India for artists has begun. Since 2014, cultural exchange programmes with 44 countries have been successfully carried out..
