New Delhi, August 14: In her address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the government’s achievements in various sectors, including economic progress, digital infrastructure, social welfare, women’s empowerment, youth engagement, environmental protection, and foreign policy.
The President noted that over 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty. Under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana, nearly 590 million account holders have been connected to the banking system, including more than 320 million women account holders.
She highlighted that food security has been ensured for 800 million people through the provision of free rations. Additionally, the Ayushman Bharat scheme has provided free medical services up to ₹500,000 annually for 600 million people.
President Murmu mentioned that initiatives like the Kisan Samman Nidhi and Kisan Credit Cards have supported farmers engaged in agriculture, dairy, poultry, fisheries, and beekeeping.
She stated that there is a growing awareness in the country that cultural pride strengthens national sovereignty. India is progressing by balancing heritage and development.
The President pointed out that the country has developed the largest and best digital infrastructure in the world, with digital payments being made even at small village shops. More than half of the world’s real-time digital transactions occur in India.
She added that the government has utilized technology to transparently deliver welfare services to the public.
President Murmu noted the unprecedented expansion of modern infrastructure, including highways, waterways, railways, and airways, creating new opportunities for enterprises, generating jobs, and boosting investor confidence.
She affirmed that India’s economy is advancing as one of the fastest-growing major economies.
The President also mentioned that India is making significant contributions to environmental protection on a global scale, with remarkable progress in renewable energy development in recent years.
She stressed the importance of ensuring that future generations have access to natural resources, aiming to provide them with even richer natural wealth. The commitment to environmental protection is part of India’s tradition.
President Murmu stated that India’s foreign policy is based on national interests, with numerous free trade agreements signed to enhance economic cooperation and strengthen mutual relations.
She expressed her happiness at the impressive performance of girls in the education sector and the increasing economic independence of women.
The President noted that 65% of the country’s population is under the age of 35, making this youth demographic India’s most valuable asset.
She highlighted the recent successful launch of a rocket by a young team with an average age of just 28, marking a new phase in space exploration.
President Murmu acknowledged that major global enterprises are impressed by the talent and dedication of Indian youth, appointing them to leadership roles. This young generation enhances India’s reputation in the global community.
She emphasized that students are the builders of India’s future, and just as national security requires unity from the government and society, collective efforts are essential for the present and future security of students.
The President noted that the government is making unprecedented investments to promote sports, yielding positive results as Indian athletes reach new heights in international competitions.
She mentioned that the government has taken several steps to improve the lives of senior citizens, urging society to remain sensitive to their dignity and self-respect.
President Murmu expressed pride in India’s tradition of triumphing over anti-humanity forces in favor of truth and justice.
She stated that making India free from Naxalism is a significant achievement, with a positive atmosphere in formerly affected areas and a flow of comprehensive development. Events like the Bastar Olympics have seen enthusiastic participation from players and artists.
The President announced that 12 forts associated with the Maratha military tradition were added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List last year, and this year, the site of Lord Buddha’s first sermon at Sarnath has also been included.
She concluded by stating that the development and welfare of all Indians is the true goal of building a developed India, calling upon citizens to dedicate themselves to this national endeavor with a spirit of inclusive patriotism.
