Uttarakhand Minister Apologizes to Daler Mehndi After Controversy
Uttarakhand Minister Subodh Uniyal has apologised to singer Daler Mehndi, resolving a recent controversy.

TEHRI GARHWAL, Oct 26: Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal has apologized to singer Daler Mehndi following a controversy during a performance at the Kunjapuri Devi Mela in Tehri Garhwal. The minister’s apology, made over a phone call, comes after Uniyal questioned Mehndi’s condition while on stage, alleging that the artist was intoxicated and lip-syncing.
The incident occurred on October 18, leading to significant backlash from the entertainment community, where many defended Mehndi and criticized his treatment. Mika Singh, Daler Mehndi’s brother, emphasized the importance of respecting artists, stating, “Respecting artists and their dignity is extremely important,” and highlighted Daler’s contributions to the music industry.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami intervened, reaching out to both brothers to address the situation. Mika praised Dhami’s approach, noting that the Chief Minister expressed regret over Uniyal’s remarks and invited the Mehndi brothers to perform in Uttarakhand again.
Mika clarified that he did not hold Dhami responsible for the incident but appreciated the Chief Minister’s communication. He stated, “There was no need for him to apologise, as he had not personally been involved in the incident,” but insisted that Uniyal needed to address the matter directly with Daler Mehndi.
After Uniyal’s apology, Mika’s team released a statement expressing hope to put the controversy to rest, emphasizing the need for mutual respect moving forward. The statement noted, “We hope this matter can now be put behind us and everyone can move forward with mutual respect and understanding.” This resolution marks the end of a public dispute in the entertainment sector.
