Trinidad, August 6: Pakistan has achieved a significant milestone by defeating the West Indies by 8 wickets in the second Test match at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. This victory marks Pakistan’s first win on foreign soil in three years, ending a streak of losses. Chasing a target of 75 runs, Pakistan successfully reached the goal, losing only 2 wickets in the process.
Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, who has recently been reinstated as captain, Pakistan ended its winless run in overseas matches. The last time Pakistan won outside the country was in July 2023 against Sri Lanka. Since then, the team faced defeats in their last 8 Test matches, but they finally broke this trend against the West Indies.
In the first innings, the West Indies scored 344 runs, to which Pakistan responded with 387 runs, gaining a lead of 43 runs. However, in their second innings, the West Indies struggled against Pakistan’s spin duo of Ali Usman and Sajid Khan, getting bowled out for just 117 runs. Both Ali Usman and Sajid claimed 4 wickets each.
Pakistan’s chase did not start well, with Imam-ul-Haq and Azaan Awais both dismissed for just 9 runs. However, Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam steadied the innings, leading the team to victory. Shafique scored an unbeaten 24 runs off 51 balls, while Babar contributed 24 runs, ensuring Pakistan leveled the two-match Test series at 1-1, following their 90-run loss in the first Test.
