Mumbai, March 16: The 98th Academy Awards ceremony took place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, hosted by Conan O’Brien. This year, the film ‘Sinners’ received nominations in 16 different categories, while ‘One Battle After Another’ garnered nominations in 13 categories, ultimately emerging as the standout film.
In the Best Sound category, the film ‘F-1’ was declared the winner, impressing the jury with its powerful engine and tire sounds. Other nominees included ‘Frankenstein’, ‘One Battle After Another’, ‘Sinners’, and ‘Sirat’. Ludwig Göransson won the Best Original Score for ‘Sinners’, with nominees including Jerskin Fendrix, Max Richter, and Johnny Greenwood.
Autumn Durald Arcapo made history by winning the Best Cinematography award for ‘Sinners’, becoming the first Black woman to receive this honor in the field. The Oscar for Best Documentary Feature went to ‘Mr. Nobody Against Putin’, with other nominees including ‘The Alabama Solution’, ‘Come See Me in the Good Light’, ‘Cutting Through Rocks’, and ‘The Perfect Neighbor’.
The award for Best International Feature Film was given to ‘Sentimentus Value’, while ‘All the Empty Rooms’ won the Best Documentary Short Film. In the Original Screenplay category, ‘Sinners’ triumphed again, with writer Ryan Coogler receiving the award.
‘Avatar: The Fire and Ash’ won for Achievement in Visual Effects, while Paul Thomas Anderson received the award for Adapted Screenplay for ‘One Battle After Another’. The film also took home the Best Film Editing award. ‘Frankenstein’ won the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, while Cassandra Kulukundis from ‘One Battle After Another’ won the first Oscar for Best Casting.
Sean Penn, who played a supporting role in the film, won the Best Supporting Actor award, while Amy Madigan was awarded Best Supporting Actress. In the Best Live Action Short Film category, ‘The Singer’ and ‘Two People Exchange Saliva’ were chosen as winners.
