Mumbai, March 16: At the 98th Academy Awards, films ‘One Battle After Another’ and ‘Sinners’ faced off in an exciting competition. Michael B. Jordan from ‘Sinners’ won the Best Actor award, while Jessie Buckley from ‘Hamnet’ took home the Best Actress award. Jordan appeared emotional as he accepted his first Oscar on stage.
In the race for Best Actor, Jordan triumphed over notable contenders including Timothée Chalamet, Ethan Hawke, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Upon receiving the award, he expressed gratitude to God and acknowledged his mother, who was present at the ceremony with the family. “God is great,” he stated.
Jordan also thanked his friend and film director Ryan Coogler, saying, “It’s an honor to call you my collaborator and friend, and to be given this opportunity and platform. I love you.”
Jessie Buckley, winning her first Oscar for ‘Hamnet’, outshone several strong actresses, including Rose Byrne for ‘If I Had Legs I Would Kick You’, Kate Hudson for ‘Song Sung Blue’, and Renée Reinsve for ‘Sentimental Value’. With this win, Buckley became the first Irish woman to receive the Best Actress Oscar.
While accepting her award, Buckley expressed joy and gratitude to the women who supported her throughout her journey. “Thank you to the incredible women I stand with. I am inspired by your art and your hearts, and I want to work with all of you,” she said.
In ‘Hamnet’, Buckley portrayed Agnes Shakespeare, the wife of playwright William Shakespeare. Directed by Chloé Zhao, the film has received positive responses globally.
