No Inclusion of Foreign Nationals in Census: Chandrashekhar Bawankule

Nagpur, May 1: Maharashtra’s Revenue Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, urged the state’s citizens to participate in the ongoing census process. He emphasized that only residents of India are permitted to take part, and foreign nationals, including Bangladeshis, will not be allowed to participate.

After attending the flag hoisting ceremony on Maharashtra Day, Minister Bawankule addressed several important issues in a press conference, including the ‘Digital Census,’ infrastructure, agriculture, and public safety. He reiterated the features of the ‘Digital Census’ and the government’s commitment to regional development, while also mentioning the shift towards ‘Digital India.’

He announced that the eighth census of independent India will be conducted digitally for the first time. He further stated, “Citizens have been granted the right to ‘self-enumeration’ from May 1 to May 15.”

The minister urged the public to accurately upload their information through the digital portal. From May 16 to June 14, census staff will visit homes using a mobile application to verify the data. He noted that the census will collect crucial statistics on housing, religion, caste, literacy, employment, and migration, which will aid in national policy-making.

Bawankule mentioned that all necessary columns for caste-wise data will be available in the self-enumeration app and will also be accessible during the physical census. He stated, “The census is the foundation of our democracy. I appeal to every citizen of Maharashtra to participate in this digital campaign to ensure accurate data for the country’s future plans.”

On the topic of labor, the minister revealed that memorandums of understanding worth ₹17 lakh crore have been signed with various companies. He emphasized that the government is insisting on 80% reservation for locals in these new projects, ensuring that while technical experts may come from outside initially, the long-term workforce remains local.

Discussing farmers, he affirmed the state’s commitment to supporting them. He also mentioned that ₹1,000 crore has been allocated to ensure connectivity through roads, electricity, and water to every farm throughout the year. Strict monitoring is being implemented to prevent the exploitation of farmers during fertilizer distribution.
