New Delhi, July 19: The Nirmohi Akhara has once again approached the Supreme Court regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds related to the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. The Akhara has requested the court to direct the reorganization of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and to conduct a forensic audit of its financial transactions, along with addressing various issues concerning temple management. A hearing on petitions related to this matter is scheduled for July 20, where a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will also be discussed.
In its petition, the Nirmohi Akhara stated that in 2019, a five-member constitutional bench of the Supreme Court directed the central government to form a trust for the construction of the Ram Temple. However, the Akhara claims that the formation and operation of the trust have not been in accordance with the spirit of the ruling. The Akhara seeks the trust to be reorganized as a public trust and demands an independent forensic audit of all financial and property-related transactions to ensure a fair investigation of any irregularities.
The Akhara has also highlighted recent allegations of misappropriation of donations and valuable items offered by devotees at the Ram Temple. It noted that the state government has formed an SIT to investigate these allegations, making a detailed examination of the trust’s financial records and properties essential. The petition further claims that the representation allotted to the Nirmohi Akhara in the trust does not align with its traditions and regulations. The Akhara has raised questions about the nomination of Mahant Dinesh Das, asserting that his selection did not follow the prescribed process.
Additionally, the Akhara has objected to the installation of a new idol in the sanctum sanctorum, arguing that it alters the original dispute’s status. It has requested that the original idols established in 1950 and 1982 be reinstated in the sanctum sanctorum.
However, the Nirmohi Akhara has clarified that it is not challenging the historic Supreme Court ruling from 2019. Its aim is solely to seek necessary directives from the court for the proper implementation of the ruling, accountability of the trust, transparency, and resolution of issues related to temple management.
