Srinagar, June 17: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken significant action by seizing the property of an accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to NIA sources, the agency has confiscated the immovable property of the accused, Shaheen Ahmed Lone, a resident of Kanispora village in North Kashmir. Shaheen, son of the late Nazir Ahmed Lone, has already been arrested in connection with this case.
The seized property includes 7.5 marla of land recorded under survey number 1192 in Kanispora village.
Sources indicate that this action was taken under Section 33(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, related to NIA case RC-01/2020/NIA/JMU. The property was confiscated following an order issued by the special NIA court in Jammu on April 30.
The NIA reports that Shaheen Ahmed Lone was previously arrested in a case involving illegal arms and is currently imprisoned in Tihar Jail, New Delhi.
It is noteworthy that the National Investigation Agency is India’s premier counter-terrorism investigation agency, established in 2008 under the NIA Act. Headquartered in New Delhi, it operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs and is responsible for investigating and prosecuting crimes against the country’s security, sovereignty, and integrity.
The NIA investigates cases related to terrorism, terrorist financing, arms and drug trafficking, counterfeit currency networks, and inter-state and international terrorist activities. In Jammu and Kashmir, the agency has probed several significant cases linked to terrorist funding, separatist networks, and terrorist attacks.
