Jaipur, June 27: Rajasthan continues to witness intense monsoon activity, with moderate to heavy rainfall recorded in Jaipur and at least 17 other cities across the state on Friday. The showers brought much-needed relief from the heat but also led to tragic incidents and significant disruption in several areas.
Rainfall Spreads Across the State
Western Rajasthan, often dry during this season, has now joined the rest of the state in experiencing monsoon showers. Jaisalmer recorded the highest rainfall with three inches, while cities such as Ajmer, Bhilwara, Alwar, Kota, Jodhpur, Churu, Dungarpur, and others also saw significant precipitation.
In Eastern Rajasthan, Sajjangarh in Banswara recorded the state’s highest rainfall on Thursday, measuring 130 mm. The India Meteorological Department reported that most districts saw light to moderate showers, with isolated areas receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall.
As a result of the widespread rain, temperatures have dipped across the region. All cities recorded daytime temperatures below 40°C on Friday. Sriganganagar logged the highest daytime temperature at 39.3°C, while Phalodi experienced the warmest night at 30.2°C.
Lightning Strikes Kill Three; Accidents Reported
Unfortunately, the rain also brought tragedy. Lightning strikes claimed three lives in different districts: a woman in Bundi, a child in Sirohi, and a youth in Dungarpur. In another incident in Dungarpur, a young girl lost her life after falling into a water-filled pit.
In Banswara, two young men attempting to cross a swollen culvert on a motorcycle were swept away. One managed to escape, while the other is still missing. Police and SDRF teams have launched a search operation.
In Sikar, waterlogging at Sanwali Chauraha caused a massive 2-kilometer-long traffic jam on the Bikaner National Highway. Meanwhile, in Kota’s Ranpur area, four youths were stranded in a fast-flowing rain-fed stream. Rescue teams responded swiftly and safely evacuated all four.
Jaipur Sees Steady Showers, Drop in Temperature
Jaipur witnessed continuous light to moderate showers beginning Thursday night and extending through Friday. Over 0.5 inches of rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours. The persistent rain led to a temperature drop, with the maximum falling by 1.4°C and the minimum by 2°C. Friday’s temperatures were logged at 33°C (maximum) and 25.2°C (minimum), providing much-needed respite for residents.
Bisalpur Dam Sees Fresh Inflow
The Bisalpur Dam in Tonk district has recorded a 2-centimeter rise in water level, bringing it to 312.57 RL meters. The dam has already received enough water in recent days to sustain the drinking water supply to Jaipur, Ajmer, and nearby districts for the next ten days. The Triveni river, which feeds into the dam, was reported to be flowing at a height of 2 meters on Friday. With continued rainfall around the catchment area, inflow into the dam is expected to increase further.
