Bhopal, June 29 — Monsoon rains continue to drench Madhya Pradesh, bringing widespread showers across the state. Due to the combined influence of four active weather systems, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 11 districts including Gwalior, Chambal, Rewa, and Shahdol divisions for Sunday. Rainfall up to 4.5 inches is expected in the next 24 hours in these areas.
Four Weather Systems Fuel Rain Activity
According to senior meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran, a low-pressure area has developed over Gujarat’s Saurashtra-Kutch region, which is likely to influence weather patterns in Madhya Pradesh over the next one to two days. Additionally, a trough line remains active across the state, triggering heavy downpours in areas it passes through. A cyclonic circulation system is also present, further intensifying rainfall across various regions.
Districts Under Heavy Rain Alert
The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for the following 11 districts on Sunday:
Guna
Ashoknagar
Shivpuri
Satna
Rewa
Sidhi
Singrauli
Shahdol
Anuppur
Mandla
Balaghat
Other districts including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Jabalpur are under a yellow alert for light to moderate rain. From July 1, the formation of a strong monsoon system is expected to result in very heavy to heavy rainfall across more than half of Madhya Pradesh. Specifically:
July 1: Extremely heavy rain alert for 6 districts, heavy rain for 26 districts.
July 2: Extremely heavy rain for 5 districts, heavy rain for 25 districts.
Saturday Sees Heavy Showers in Several Areas
More than 15 districts witnessed rainfall on Saturday. Sidhi recorded over an inch of rain, while Khajuraho and Naugaon in Chhatarpur received more than half an inch. After heavy rain in Satna, waterlogging was reported in low-lying areas, with water reaching knee-deep levels in some locations.
In Chitrakoot, rapid downpour led to water cascading down from the Gupt Godavari cave hills. Barwani’s Bijasan Ghat experienced dense fog, slowing down vehicular movement. Light rain was reported from Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Shivpuri, Datia, Guna, Balaghat, Burhanpur, Sehore, Dindori, Shajapur, Agar-Malwa, and Dewas.

With systems remaining active and new ones forming, Madhya Pradesh is poised for significant rainfall activity through the week. The IMD urges residents in the alert zones to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
