Mitchell Starc Takes Six Wickets as Australia Dismisses South Africa for 329
Mitchell Starc's six-wicket haul propelled Australia to dismiss South Africa for 329 in Cape Town after a strong start by the hosts.

CAPE TOWN, Oct 28: Mitchell Starc achieved a six-wicket haul, helping Australia dismiss South Africa for 329 in the third Test in Cape Town. After a strong opening partnership of 158 runs from the Proteas, Australia rallied back significantly late in the day.
Marques Ackerman and Aiden Markram thrived early, with Ackerman scoring 95 runs and Markram adding 78, putting Australia under pressure. However, the momentum shifted dramatically as the day progressed.
Starc took the last six wickets of South Africa’s innings, finishing with figures of 6 for 72. “A lot of us have been around long enough to try and problem solve while we’re going,” he said. His late surge included four wickets in just two overs as the home side faltered from 1-203 to all out.
Australia, captained by Pat Cummins, initially struggled on a pitch favorable to batters. They opted to bowl first but faced a fierce onslaught from South Africa’s openers. Cummins made four changes to his lineup, resting Scott Boland and sidelining Steve Smith due to injury.
The Australian bowlers yielded 140 runs without taking a wicket in the first session. Starc noted, “It would have been nice to do it with the new ball in the first hour, but I think it’s a feature of our group. We can problem solve before the end of the day’s play.”
Despite South Africa’s strong start, poor shot selection led to a collapse. They lost five wickets for just 29 runs, with many batters falling into traps created by the Australian bowling attack. Captain Temba Bavuma was bowled out by Nathan Lyon.
The match, part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 series, will continue over the coming days, with Australia looking to capitalize on their late momentum.
