New Delhi, December 24: The West Indies Cricket Board on Monday announced its squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, starting January 17, 2025, in Multan. Among the notable inclusions is Aamir Jangoo, who earned his maiden Test call-up following an impressive performance in his ODI debut century against Bangladesh. Additionally, spinner Gudakesh Motie has been recalled to strengthen the spin attack for what will be the West Indies’ final series in the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Fast bowler Shamar Joseph, recovering from an injury, has been ruled out, while Alzarri Joseph is unavailable for selection due to personal reasons.

Focus on Performance and Adaptation
Head coach Andre Coley highlighted the team’s approach and rationale behind the squad selections:
“For the Test series against Pakistan in January 2025, our focus is on building upon our strong performances and converting the lessons of 2024 into tangible results. Motie’s inclusion bolsters our spin attack, while Jangoo’s selection reflects his consistent performances across formats in regional cricket and his proficiency against spin bowling.”
Schedule and Venues
The series will comprise two Tests, both hosted by Multan:
- First Test: January 17, 2025
- Second Test: January 25, 2025
Before the series, the West Indies team will play a two-day warm-up match on January 11-12 in Rawalpindi.

Strengthening the Spin Department
The inclusion of Gudakesh Motie is seen as a tactical move to address the spin-friendly conditions expected in Pakistan. Motie, who has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket, returns to the side after missing recent fixtures. His pairing with Jomel Warrican and Kevin Sinclair is expected to provide variety and depth in the spin attack.
Aamir Jangoo’s Rising Star
Aamir Jangoo’s inclusion reflects his strong form across all formats in regional cricket and his ability to handle spin—a critical skill in the subcontinent. Jangoo recently showcased his potential by scoring a century on his ODI debut against Bangladesh, further cementing his place in the West Indies’ plans for the future.
