Udaipur : Plans to tie the nuptial knot didn’t work out well for a minor couple in love at a Banswara village who had pressurised and convinced their respective families to arrange their marriage before attaining the legal age for wedding. As the childline got the news and officials arrived to stop the wedding, the boy fled into the fields while to cover up the incident, her mother wore the wedding saree to mislead the team. However, truth came out and the wedding ceremony was terminated.
The incident took place at Chitra Dungri where a 16-year old girl was being married to a 20 year old boy from Ghalkiya village. As the rituals were in progress, the team of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) arrived. Fearing arrest, the boy discarded his turban and fled into the fields , the team members chased and convinced him that he would not be arrested if he stepped back from the marriage. Meanwhile to mislead the team, the bride ‘s mom was brought before the officials who said that it was her marriage ceremony.
However, the team was not pacified and verified the age documents of the bride and groom. Up on much persuasion the family members of both parties said that their children were in love and had forced them to get them married before attaining the legal age for marriage. The family were served notice and warned not to hold the ceremony until the couple attained marriageable age, project officer Rekha Dashora informed.
