Lucknow, May 11: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has expressed deep concern over the recent clashes in Lalwala village of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, which erupted over a dispute regarding the placement of a photograph. She noted that several individuals from the Dalit community were injured, leading to heightened tensions in the area.
Mayawati urged the police and administration to take immediate and impartial action to restore order. She also appealed to both parties involved to resolve the conflict peacefully and legally.
On her social media platform X, Mayawati stated, “The situation in Lalwala village of Saharanpur district is quite tense due to the injuries sustained by many Dalits in the dispute and subsequent clashes over the placement of a photo on the land. The police and administration must act swiftly and fairly to control the situation. I also urge both communities to maintain peace and harmony and to resolve the matter legally rather than through force.”
It is noteworthy that the dispute over land ownership between two communities in Lalwala escalated into violent clashes, resulting in stone-pelting and physical altercations. The police had to resort to baton charges to disperse the crowd as conditions worsened.
One side alleges that the other attempted to occupy their land to install a statue of a revered figure from their community, while the opposing side claims the land in question is their purchased property. Following the incident, members of the Bhim Army, Azad Samaj Party, and BSP also arrived at the village, further escalating tensions in the area. In light of the sensitive nature of the situation, a heavy police presence has been deployed in the village.
According to police officials, the dispute over land ownership is under investigation, and necessary legal actions are being taken. Meanwhile, the national president of the Azad Samaj Party, Chandrashekhar Azad, was stopped by police on his way to the village.
