Mumbai, May 1: Maharashtra Governor Jagdish Mukhi announced on Friday that the state will play a crucial role in India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, contributing $1 trillion to the national economy target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking at the ‘Maharashtra Day’ celebrations held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park, the Governor expressed confidence that the state government’s vision document ‘Developed Maharashtra 2047’ will elevate the state to new heights of progress. He urged all sections of society to actively participate in building an inclusive and advanced Maharashtra.
The Governor highlighted Maharashtra’s growing reputation as a global investment hub, mentioning that Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹31.25 lakh crore were signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The state’s new industrial policy aims to attract investments of ₹70.5 lakh crore, potentially creating 5 million direct jobs. To streamline administrative processes for international investors, a dedicated ‘Foreign Direct Investment’ desk has been established within the protocol department.
Governor Mukhi provided an overview of the state’s rapid infrastructure expansion. He noted that the state has approved the PPP policy 2026 prepared by MITRA (Maharashtra Institution for Transformation). The Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to become the country’s new gateway, while Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line) is fully operational. Additionally, a 340-kilometer long waterway network is being developed in the Mumbai metropolitan area, and the upcoming Vadhavan Port in Palghar is expected to create over 1.2 million direct jobs.
The state is also committed to the welfare of farmers, having directly distributed over ₹15,950 crore to more than 10 million farmers affected by natural disasters. Under the Chief Minister’s free electricity scheme for farmers, 4.5 million agricultural pumps are receiving ₹25,087 crore in electricity subsidies.
Maharashtra has set a Guinness World Record by installing 45,911 solar pumps between October and November 2025, leading the country in sustainable energy initiatives.
Under the ‘Chief Minister Student Science Tour’, rural students will visit prominent institutions like ISRO and NASA. Through the ‘Umed’ mission, 400,000 women have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’, with expectations of reaching 500,000 soon.
The state is streamlining the recruitment process to fill 50,000 positions through MPSC and 20,000 positions through other departments. The new ‘Nipun Setu’ initiative will provide private sector opportunities to candidates who reach the final interview stage but are not selected for government positions.
The Governor also mentioned various social initiatives, including ‘My Village, Healthy Village’, ‘Healthy Women Empowered Families’, and the Kumbh Mela. Earlier, he paid tribute to the martyrs of the United Maharashtra movement and acknowledged the contribution of workers to the state’s development while wishing everyone a happy International Labour Day.
